These wood items can last a lifetime if cared for properly. Hand wash with warm (not hot) lightly soapy water and thoroughly dry immediately with a clean cloth. After hand washing there will be a soft feel to the surface. This is totally normal! If the wood seems dry use walnut oil to replenish the finish.
Never use in microwave or oven or wash in dishwasher. Never allow to soak in water. Never use vegetable oil or olive oil to replenish finish as these will become rancid over time.
